Our Structure
Sheffield Renewables is organised around a number of teams; the Management Group, Technical Team, Communications Team and Funding Team. New volunteers are always welcome to get involved with our work. If the activities of any of these teams appeals to you, check out the Get Involved section of our website for more information on how to join in.
Management Group
This group includes the Board of Directors, who are elected annually by the members of Sheffield Renewables. They are legally responsible for the effective running of the organisation. The group also includes additional members, who help the board meet their management responsibilities. These members often have specific professional skills or knowledge relevant to the running of the organisation.
Technical Team
The Technical Team takes responsibility for project development and ultimately overseeing construction of our energy schemes. Members of the team tend to have technical backgrounds such as engineering, project management, environmental assessment and planning, though this is not essential. The team organises itself into smaller work groups to cover the various ongoing activities. At present this includes; hydro, wind, research and model making. We hold regular ‘Technical Team’ discussion nights, enabling all those involved to stay in touch with everything that is going on.
Communications Team
The Communications Team sets the direction for all our communications work and coordinates its delivery. This includes this website, our newsletters, press releases, local talks, events and festival stands amongst other things. Work activities range from designing templates for presentations and display boards to deciding which of Sheffield Renewables’ activities make the news in our interviews. Members of the Communications Team tend to be creative, have strong communications skills and/or are able to think strategically about how we communicate as an organisation.
Funding Team
In order to build our energy schemes, it is vital that we are able to develop a good business case and then use it to raise the funding needed. Our key sources of funding are grants, loans and shares. This is where the funding team comes in. They are working to secure the bridge funding that will enable us to operate and develop as an organisation, for the period until we are able to operate sustainably using income from our electricity sales. Currently a lot of work is focused on researching and developing grant funding bids.
